Dresner Advisory Services Publishes 2021 Small and Mid-Sized Enterprise Business Intelligence and Enterprise Performance Management Market Studies

NASHUA, NH, September 30, 2020 - Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2021 editions of its Small and Mid-Sized Enterprise Business Intelligence Market Study and Small and Mid-Sized Enterprise Performance Market Study. The reports are part of Dresner Advisory’s Wisdom of Crowds series of research.

The annual reports examine business intelligence (BI) and enterprise performance management (EPM) usage and trends within small and mid-sized organizations (SMEs), with a detailed analysis of how their deployments and views differ from each other and from large organizations. A small enterprise is a business or organization with between one and 100 employees; a mid-sized enterprise has between 101 and 1,000 employees.

According to the research, organizations of different sizes share common BI technology imperatives. Large organizations pay attention to more priorities, especially those associated with infrastructure. Small organizations are more interested in cloud, advanced visualization, data storytelling, and social media analysis.

“Our study shows that organizations of any size prioritize ‘better decision-making’ as their BI objective,” said Jim Ericson, vice president and research director at Dresner Advisory. “However, while large organizations more often chase operational efficiencies and compliance, small organizations more likely prioritize growth in revenues, competitive advantage, and enhanced customer service.”

SMEs have consistently rated annual financial budgets as the most important planning capability in enterprise performance management in the past 4 years of the study. They also view cloud deployment more favorably than their larger counterparts but are more cautious in their attitude towards AI and machine learning within EPM than larger peers.

“Although adoption of EPM within SME’s is lower than at larger enterprises, it still remains an important area of investment,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory. “EPM is well established in SME organizations and will inevitably increase with a focus upon specialized EPM vendors and tight ERP integration.”

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. Users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the market.  For more information visit www.dresneradvisory.com.
